The Ford F-150 received a complete redesign for 2015. This was the first year Ford began manufacturing the F-150 with aluminum body panels and a high-strength steel frame. Together, these elements reduced the weight of the full-size F-150 by more than 700 pounds. According to the Kansas City Used Ford dealer, a lighter vehicle allowed the automaker to downsize one of the engines and boost the capability of the others, while at the same time, providing a boost in fuel economy by 5 to 20 percent.
The 2015 Ford F-150 sported a new look, with a body that was made slightly wider and doors that were slimmer. This created two extra inches of space inside the cabin, something that's evident between the driver and the front passenger seats. When you see the 2015 F-150 at a dealership like the KC Used Ford dealer, you’ll notice the premium materials that are used in the interior, which adds a more upscale flavor.
Features that were new for 2015 include:
While the use of aluminum was somewhat controversial, automotive reviewers praised the 2015 Ford F-150, with The Car Connection writing: “Ford is taking the plunge before its top rivals, with a lighter-weight aluminum body that rescales every metric possible. The F-150 is the most consequential new vehicle in the past 25 years — Volt included.”
The 2015 F-150 is available in three body styles: Regular cab, SuperCab and SuperCrew. The standard 6-foot, 7-inch bed is the only one offered on the Regular cab. The SuperCab can also choose an 8-foot, 1-inch long bed, and the SuperCrew can also be equipped with a 5-foot, 7-inch bed. The model was offered in five trim levels: XL, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch and Platinum.
The 2015 Ford F-150 had a choice of one of four engines:
All engines are mated to a standard six-speed automatic transmission. Rear-wheel drive is standard, and four-wheel drive is available. The F-150 can haul up to about 3,300 pounds, with a maximum towing capacity of 12,200 pounds, which beats the competition.
Ford engineered the 2015 F-150 with safety in mind. So, it’s no surprise the F-150 received the highest rating of five stars overall from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
